Maori Tribal Tattoo
This tattoo of a face looks to me like a Maori Tattoo, in the New Zealand tradition. Of course, traditional Ta Moko or Maori tattoos, could also be found tattooed onto the individual;s face and not just an image of a face. Ta Moko was a history of that particular person’s achievements as well as showing their status in the tribe. It was seen as a huge honour for people to have and display Ta Moko and it was worn by men as well as the women. Those of higher rank were allowed to have the markings on their faces. This tattoo is a bit of the best of both worlds. It shows a face…without the added pain of actually being on their face! Great symmetry and line work make this a very solid tattoo choice.

Feminine Pegasus Tattoo
While a very feminine and girly winged horse, or Pegasus, this is also a well done and clean tattoo. The mane and tail are flowing lively – the wings are fantastic, with great looking feathers. In fact, the wing pressure appears to have dislodged some of the feathers and they hang in mid air whimsically. The horse’s body has great movement and it does a good job of showcasing the head, legs and tail. It is oh so girly – but manages to be fun and pretty at the same time. The colors are very well blended, with great white and blue on the body.
The Phoenix
The mythology surrounding the phoenix relates to the rebirth of all things. When something supposedly dies, it is often simply a transformation from what was, to what it now will be. The phoenix is said to burn up in flames at the end of its life, then to be reborn from those ashes once again to its full glory. The tears are supposed to have healing powers, as well. It is a bird of strength and intelligence. In addition, it was supposed to be very beautiful as well. The flames beginning to engulf this phoenix frame the main image well. The feathers are really well done and the tail has a peacock feel to it. Love the look of the head and the placement of the claws, too. It is flapping amidst the fire, yet clearly not afraid.
Wisdom In Your Hand
There was not any description as to what the tattoo was meant to signify…but it certainly speaks to me of the never-ending chain of wisdom that is passed from one generation to the next. Year after year, the knowledge of the ages has been given to each person from someone else, usually through stories or myths and fables of one kind or another. The point is, we have all learned from the spoken word or been communicated to on some level regarding life and our place in it. This clever tattoo seems to represent this chain. Each man speaks in turn to the next – on and on, until the end. Nice details throughout make this a very interesting tattoo!
Tattoo Design
What a great tribal pattern tattoo. I’m not sure if the roman numeral 13 is intended to pay tribute to the miniseries (about a conspiracy theory involving a man with a XIII tattoo) or the video game (which was based off of a comic book series about a man who awoke with no memory of who he was) or are meant to symbolize something else completely. No matter though, it looks just perfect in the middle of that sun design. The edge of the pattern along the shoulder is too cool. Love all the different patters and how they are layered throughout the entire design. A tribal tattoo that is awesome to look at.
Native American Profile and Eagle
Blue Spider Tattoo
If this were a real species of spider and I came across it somehow, I believe I just might completely and totally freak out! Great fine line work on the legs and the fangs – very sharp! The blue color is beautiful and the markings are intriguing and look almost like the stars in the sky. This spider has a crazy looking head with razor sharp fangs that will surely bite through anything. Very, very tough looking. Notice the small little sharp edges on the underside of the lower jaw and along the chest. Also, take a look at the small horns and the many eyes. Yeech!
Spider Rose Tattoo
This tattoo is interesting on several levels! Is it a picture of a rose? Is it a picture of a spider? It does appear to have a bit of a Mexican feel and influence – a bit of a ‘Dia De Los Muertos’ kind of coloring and style. That said, it is well executed and the colors are vibrant and crisp. It is imaginative and eye catching, for sure! The body is a blooming rose, with the leaves as the abdomen. The head appears out of an unfolding rose petal, while the legs branch out just over the outer later of petals.
Alien Tattoos
Ah ha! A very fierce alien that looks like the one from the cult movie classic “Alien”. I am a big fan of that movie series, so was very excited to see this killer looking alien tattoo. The colors reach out and grab you and the design is very clean and complete. The green matter below looks like the environment that the aliens built in the movie, too. The head and upper body are certainly fear inducing and great to see. Love the colors and all the little ‘extras’ that have been included…a great fan-type of tattoo!
Tattoo Woman
The feel and look to this tattoo is, to me, very Cirque Du Soleil! It is charming, skillful, unique and beautiful. The circle design is interesting and perfectly frames the woman’s face. She does appear to have the eye marks of a lady clown. We see flecks of hair also framing the face and overlapping onto the circle design. Her eyes are done magnificently – they are playful and inviting, as is her slight smile! I really like the way it seems as though she is looking out at us from another world…wondering what it is that is going on and smiling all the while.
Little Angel Tattoo
If this isn’t just one of the cutest tattoos ever! It is very, dare I say, adorable? The little angel is squatting to look at…a sun spot? While I’m not sure what it is that is reflecting back to her, I’m so happy that it is, nonetheless. Her hair looks so soft, her little angel wings are wanting to be touched, and her pudgy little feet and toes put it all over the top. With a sweet profile and lips ready to give a tiny peck, this is an angel with personality. The details are lovely – from the ribbons in her hair to her sash, she is nicely put together.

Intricate Tribal Tattoos
A truly beautiful design with this tattoo! This half sleeve black-work image is very involved and intricate. There are many patterns throughout, covering the arm and shoulder. Some of it appears to be Celtic in nature, with a larger chain pattern hooking into the larger design on the chest. It almost looks like a design that might have been seen on a piece of armor. The use of white to showcase the different textures is awesome. Love the way it looks like the bird head is holding the other pieces together on the chest.
Native Pride Tattoo
Native pride can be shown in many different ways – and this one does an excellent job. What an awesome mix of animals represented in this tattoo! It shows the eyes of an owl, then the markings of a giraffe, a zebra and then the head of an eagle or a hawk. The design incorporates a tribal pattern on the neck of the bird and a traditional feather piece. The layers are well put together and create an amazing pattern and overall look. It is well suited to the shoulder area and makes great use of the space, The owl eyes are intriguing and very well shaped and shaded.
Lower Back Tree Woman
Tree tattoos are very popular and can have a wide variety of meanings and can symbolize some very deep and important ideas. Most often, the tattoo image is meant to be the Tree of Life – and when it is, it can represent abundance, strength, protection, knowledge (or wisdom), sustenance, growth and even the Creator. Not only are trees ultimately beautiful, then can offer protection and symbolize a kind of renewal. The cycle of the tree as it experiences each season can show a kind of salvation or rebirth. It transforms itself over and over – from a naked and lonely thing, to one full of life and richly abundant. This tree is in its Autumn – with leaves gracefully falling to the floor beneath. The roots show its complexity and strength of its foundation.
Writing Tattoos Trendy
Here is a compilation of the many different kinds of writing that are available with tattoos. The first picture is of a small willow tree and the words “While I Breathe I Hope”. This is a nice little design as it has the small tree and the words incorporated in the roots. The next image has the word “California” written very stylishly – with diamonds on each end and some red ink highlighting and framing the tattoo lettering. Next is the word “Legacy” tattooed on the upper chest. The font is somewhat 3D and it sports some great looping to the L, G and Y tails. Last are the words “Alis Volat Propriis” which means “She Flies By Her Own Wings”. The over all letting is very basic and clean, but with flourishes to each capital letter at the beginning of each word. Also again we see an additional touch, a nice small bird to really add to the writing’s meaning.
Unique Tribal Pattern tattoo
The term “Tribal” used to be more specific to indigenous tattoos, where there where symbols and meaning to the tattoos as well as meaning to where they were placed on the body, as well. In more modern times, ‘tribal’ really just refers to designs that are mostly just black work. This is a nice variation on the theme. An open scroll-work pattern with zig-zags and ring patterns makes for an nicely different and interesting look for this half sleeve tattoo. The under pattern is intricate and really livens up the overall design.

Girl Cross Tattoos Combines Religion and Style
Girl Cross Tattoos are the currently prevailing tattoo designs which have become a popular trend. These tattoos are inked as symbols which are distinct and unique. The one feature which distinguishes this variety of tattoo from others is the representation of Christianity as well as whole humanity. The history of inking cross tattoos goes back to the pagan era in ancient times. The Greeks and Egyptians later adopted this ancient tattoo design. But you are not required to be a devout Christian to ink the tattoo. There are some tattoo designs which are very popular due to their stylish look. These tattoos are inked in a number of different designs and styles which give the girl an option to reveal her inner self. Traditionally, these tattoos are believed to keep a person safe from any harm due to their religious attachment. Further, these tattoos are available for girls in both small and large sizes. So you can ink a large cross tattoo to cover your entire back or you can ink tiny cross tattoos on your anklet or wrist.
The girl cross tattoos inked with Celtic crosses are the most popular among these tattoo designs. The Celtic cross tattoo designs are full with intricate knot works without any ending or beginning. Most of the people choose these tattoos due to their beauty, but still then these tattoos also contain crosses which symbolize constant spiritual development. These tattoos carry a deeper meaning for Irish, Scottish, and Welsh descendants as they use these tattoos to show and carry their proud heritage.
Another popular design of girl cross tattoos is the designs containing the Iron Cross. The Iron Cross was originally used in the 14th century as the symbol of Teutonic Knights. In 1870 it was adopted as the military symbol in Germany. In modern times, these crosses represent honor and strength. The design of Iron Cross used in these tattoos is a much shorter version of the original Iron Crosses and at each end these are wider than their original versions. So girls wear these tattoos to show their inner strength and honor.
Some of the girl cross tattoos use the Gothic cross and Christian cross in their designs. Normally the Gothic cross does not carry any religious or heritage value. Still it is used in the tattoo designs as it easily becomes the center of attention. Normally these crosses are inked along with knives, swords, or wires woven through it. Some popular designs of cross tattoos use the Christian cross in their designs. The Christian cross is generally inked as a Latin cross or the Crucifix. The Latin cross is a simple wooden cross whereas the Crucifix is inked with Jesus on it. These tattoos normally represent devout religious feelings of the bearer.
Cross Tattoos for Men with Pre-Christian and Christian Symbols
Cross tattoos for men normally include a cross in their designs which is synonymous with the Christian religion. But these tattoos are considered as the most versatile, and also contain crosses which are regarded as pre-Christian or pagan. So this tattoo is popular among people who wants to express their religious beliefs, as well as among the tattoo lovers who want to convey some personal symbolic meaning through their tattoos. The history of these tattoo designs can be traced back to an ancient era which existed even before the spread of Christianity. These designs are also equally popular among women who love to carry the cross tattoos on their hand, ankle, lower back or foot. But the cross tattoos for men are inked in a larger size on the back, shoulder, or forearm of men.
Many Christians love to carry these tattoos as the cross is a symbol of their faith. As Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans using the Cross, which was a common instrument for torturing and executing the non-Romans and salves, the instrument has become the traditional symbol of the religion. As the religion does not have any restriction on bearing tattoos, many Christians love to carry the images of Cross through the inked design to represent their religious belief and trust. Some people love to include the Latin cross or crux ordinaria in their cross tattoos for men as this is the one of the simple and basic cross images. The Latin cross is also considered to represent the divine through its vertical lines and the world through its horizontal lines. People regard cross as an intersection between the human and divine. So a large number of Christians carry these tattoos to represent the sacred bond between the divine and human.
There are a large number of non-Christians who love to carry the cross tattoos for a personal meaning which does not have any similarity with the religious feeling. For these tattoo lovers the cross is a pagan symbol which was very much popular even before the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. They consider the cross to be a pagan symbol representing a meaning of harmony and symmetrical existence of both male and female. In many pagan cultures, the vertical bar of cross was considered as the symbol of the male phallus, whereas the horizontal bar was the representative of vagina. Both the arms were of equal length highlighting the importance of both men and women in the entire creation. So the pagan version of the cross tattoos for men normally use a cross which is different form the Christian cross.
The Intricacies behind a Polynesian Tattoo
Polynesian tattoo designs are a great way of showing off your newly acquired body carvings. They appear to be very intricate and modern but are in fact completely traditional. The origins of this form of tattooing can be found in the ancient people who went through really torturous times to get themselves tattooed. You can get a tattoo done for a very short time now and through highly specialized machines. But in the days gone by, you could only get them hand made and which took a really long time to be intricately carved.
Although there are many varieties of tattoos available now, it is a different kind of pleasure to get a Polynesian tattoo engraved on the skin. People even get themselves inked with more than one such tattoo. These tattoos can further be classified into many types of which Maori tattoos are a favorite. Such tattoos are famous among the Maori tribe of New Zealand, are spiral in form and are made on the faces. Other varieties include the Hawaiian tribal tattoos which have special meanings behind every figure. They are usually inked only in black and are used to decorate the body. These tattoos mark the mourning of a person.
Whenever you think of warding off evil forces, you think of inking your body with a Polynesian tattoo. Sometimes, people belonging to certain tribes also like to get themselves tattooed with this design as a mark of identification. The Rapa Nui or Easter Island tattoos are paid the maximum reverence in these tattoo designs. These pure and holy tattoos not only kept you protected from evil spirits but also were an avenue to reach the Gods. The skin of the person having this tattoo was highly respected and so people loved inking their bodies with these tattoos.
In fact, there are many kinds of Polynesian tattoo designs according to the people who wear them. All of them have different meanings and are a part of the culture of particular sections of society. Today, people are very fond of inking their bodies with these tattoos, especially the ones in black. The designs really bring out the artistry of the tattoo artist. If you think of getting a Polynesian tattoo done on your face, then do a bit of research to know how it suits your personality. Since it is really difficult to eliminate a tattoo after it is done, discover the meaning behind it and get ready to be noticed.
Polynesian Tattoo: Following Rich Traditions
The Polynesian Islands are spread out over a large area. They include the Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Easter Islands, Tahiti, French Polynesia and Hawaii. Parts of New Zealand have also accepted the Polynesian culture. Tattooing has been active in these parts since times unknown. A Polynesian tattoo has always made the natives proud and they all have a different meaning attached to it. The influx of missionaries in these areas put the brakes on tattooing but with the art form becoming a worldwide phenomenon, people in these regions and all around the world are becoming fonder of Polynesian tattoo day by day.
There are basically two types of Polynesian tattoo: Etua and Enata. Etua has many religious connotations and has a range of magical symbols spiritually connected with many Gods. On the other hand, Enata has links with the social status of a person. It characterizes the place of origin, social standing, occupation and history of a person bearing it. But these tattoos became famous in 1980’s with the art form witnessing resurgence in Tahiti which later became common in Mar
quesa Islands. New Zealand followed the trend and redefined it to suit the Western styles. In fact, tattooing has never ceased to interest all the people there.
The traditional Polynesian tattoo is back again in the New Zealand with the Maoris sporting full body tattoos. Some women have begun to tattoo their chin and upper lip just like their predecessors. But the most number of this style of tattoos is most probably worn by the people of Easter Island and Rapa Nui. And all the tattoos have their specific meanings. It may be an initiation into manhood. Men are considered to be boys until they have their body tattooed. Women are also not left behind. They show their interest for the men by tattooing their bodies.
There are even particular tattoos for criminals. It would be great to supplement this idea in our modern society. Intricately designed tattoos have different stories to relate and some cover the entire body. Although modern methods of placing a Polynesian tattoo have come up, there are still a few who insist on having their body inked through trad
itional ways. A bone chisel does the necessary work with an attached needle. It causes a lot of pain and in fact, the locals proudly bear this as a mark of their bravery. But besides the pain, a Polynesian tattoo is really good after it is complete. The Internet provides many beautiful designs to have your body inked. Even if not for preserving traditions, these tattoos provide a great way to project your personality.
Polynesian Tattoos Designs Representing the Art of a Thousand Islands
Polynesian tattoo is an inherited body art from Polynesia which is a group of over thousand islands in the Pacific Ocean. The style and pattern of these designs differ from one island to another even though the body art was common across all the islands. These designs are further a classic combination of a rich history along with a set of traditional meanings and significance. A large number of rituals are associated with these tattoos as these were considered as sacred and pious by the Polynesians. The bearer has to follow these regulations before as well as after getting the design inked on his body parts. Ancient people were inking the Polynesian tattoo designs using a set of traditional instruments like bamboos, bird bones, and turtle shells. These people were considering the entire tattooing process to be of great significance and were accompanying the tattooing with song and dance.
The healing process was very much time consuming and painful, but the islanders loved to bear these designs as a symbol of courage, power and even their position, rank, or standing in the society. A person was eligible to bear this tattoo after completion of twelfth year which is considered as the transitional period from boyhood to manhood. The person was further bearing additional tattoos with any addition to his existing admiration and respect. Both men and women loved to bear these Polynesian tattoo designs. Most common feature of these tattoos was their elaborate designs, abstract style, and significance based on their tradition and customs. But the features were varying based on the expression the bearer wants to convey through these designs. Based on his intended self-expression these tattoos were inked with different size, shape, style, color and placement on the body. The bearer and artists had options to manipulate the designs based on their preference and meaning.
Most of the women love to sport smaller sized tattoos on their arms, hands, chins, and lips. Whereas, the men prefer to bear elaborate designs covering their entire shoulders or a large part of their backs. These Polynesian tattoo designs also vary based on the associated style like Tahitian, Hawaiian, Samoan, and Marquesan. These deigns were further distinguished based on a specific island and skill of the tattooing artist. Before inking such a design on your body, you have to be 100% about the exact meaning you want to convey through the tattoo. Spend some time selecting the exact design after going through the various designs along with their associated symbolism, meaning, and significance.

The Second Station--The Disciples Find the Tomb Empty
Leader: O Risen Christ, Light of the world, we adore you;
People: The disciples looked in the tomb, and saw and believed.
Mary Magdalene could scarcely catch her breath as she told Peter and the beloved disciple what she had seen. As they heard her story, they looked at each other incredulously. Was she so grief-stricken she was delirious? "This can't possibly be," they told her. The tomb was guarded. No one could have stolen the body. At this point, they could not imagine anything beyond "stolen."
"Come," Peter told Mary. "Let's go back there and you will see our Lord still rests there. The guards would not have let him be stolen."
When they all arrived back at the tomb, a large crowd was already there. More soldiers had arrived to keep order. People huddled at the mouth of the tomb but would not go in. The beloved disciple said to Peter, "Look! His burial linens are there, but he has disappeared!" Finally Peter burst through the crowd and into the tomb. "He's gone!" he exclaimed, but only after he had grabbed up the burial linens and held them in his own hands.
Leader: As the disciples looked out from the inside of the tomb;
People: They feared that their Lord's body had been stolen.
Leader: Let us pray.
(a brief period of silence is observed.)
Everlasting God,
Sometimes we cannot believe your works until we see for ourselves,
and even then, we try to rationalize it.
Teach us to fully believe in your mighty power
even when it seems distant from us.
Remind us of your continuous presence,
and that you alone have the power to conquer sin and death.
Keep our eyes ever looking forward, turning to the light, and life,
Rather than remaining in the darkness of our own fears.
People: Amen.
Leader: Alleluia! Christ is risen!
People: The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!
